Sasha Sinclair was born Diedre Tillery in November 1966 in Hampton, VA. She is a self-taught artist producing modern and abstract paintings in watercolor and oil. Sasha did not start out to be an artist. Before becoming a painter, she was a night club singer and a fashion designer.
Sasha has performed in musical and theatrical productions since age 4. She sang in cabaret shows in North and South Carolina, Virginia and Washington, DC for nearly ten years. This is where she picked up the stage name "Sasha Sinclair." Her vocal talents received comparisons to artists like Sara Vaughan and Jill Scott.
Sasha was often asked where she got her stage clothing and costumes. After she revealed that she designed and sewed everything herself, people would make requests for custom made clothing and Sasha Sinclair Couture was born. For 15 years she ran a successful fashion design firm that specialized in custom made bridal and eveningwear. Her client list grew to include everyone from beauty queens to drag queens, news anchors and new brides in three states and two countries. It is during this time that she refined her skills with color and texture that influenced her as much as the art of Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso, Georgia O'Keeffe, Vincent Van Gogh and Gustav Klimt.
With watercolor and pen and ink, her first forays into art began with making detailed fashion renderings for her clients that became as desirable as the clothing itself. Soon her clients were buying the original fashion art as well as the dresses. With the encouragement of friends, she pursued painting in oil. Since 2003 she has devoted herself completely to painting and has developed a unique style that celebrates color and organic forms. Sasha has had 3 one-woman shows with the last one selling out before the show even started. She won an art competition hosted by ABSOLUT® Vodka with entries in acrylic and pastel. Sasha currently volunteers as an Adult Weekend Docent at the National Gallery of Art
The artist lives and works in her studio in Arlington, VA.
